- According to the study 'EnergIAbySmarkia', prepared by GFK, which analyzes the perception of large companies about the importance of Artificial Intelligence in energy management, 75% of companies say they are interested in systems that apply this technology to manage their consumption.
- Companies such as Gullón, Klépierre or AUREN already rely on Smarkia to include AI in their energy management.
León, July 2, 2024- In a context in which around 25% of companies use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in some way, only 9% do so to optimize their consumption and improve their energy efficiency; although the degree of satisfaction of those that use it is 98%.
This is one of the main conclusions of the study 'EnergIA by Smarkia: expectations, penetration and contribution of Artificial Intelligence in energy management in large companies', prepared by GFK for Smarkia, a company specialized in AI-based energy management and optimization solutions.
Thus, despite the fact that large companies do not seem to have fully committed to this type of technology, the study also shows that up to 75% consider it interesting to hire an energy management system based on AI.
By sector, companies in the production and manufacturing industry (61%) are, together with those in the tourism sector (70%) and those in the food industry, mass consumption and retail (61%); those that have shown the greatest awareness of the potential of Artificial Intelligence when it comes to optimizing energy consumption.
These three sectors are precisely those that have been most affected by the energy crisis, which has led companies to implement measures to optimize their energy consumption, both to reduce costs and to reduce their environmental impact and advance in their sustainability. Specifically, companies in the tourism sector (89%) are the most interested in contracting AI-based energy management systems, followed by companies in the food, consumer goods and retail sector (88%) and companies in the production and manufacturing industry (77%).
AI, an established technology for optimizing energy consumption
As can be seen from the survey data, there is still a certain lack of knowledge about the potential of AI in energy management, as the degree of interest shown contrasts with the low percentage of companies that currently use it. However, the level of satisfaction among companies that already use this type of solution is very high, confirming that its use in optimizing energy consumption is already well established.
Currently, companies such as Gullón, Klépierre or the professional services firm AUREN have contracted energy management solutions based on Artificial Intelligence that allow them to record significant savings in both energy consumption and production costs.
Thus, the leading cookie manufacturer, Gullón, has reduced the production cost of its cookies, while in the case of Klépierre, the reduction in electricity consumption has avoided the emission of 522 tons of CO2. In the case of AURENthe platform has allowed it to offer its clients optimization automation services customized by sector, which, in the case of catering and hotel accounts, has achieved potential savings of 20% in the optimization of their contracts.
As explained by the head of Digital Transformation - Systems Department of Gullón, Aída Santos Valle, "the AI solutions applied by Smarkia give us a clear added value that reports directly in a better and more effective daily visualization of the data, which allows us to analyze the information and detect deviations quickly and easily, being able to access the complete detail of the data".
For his part, the technical director of Klépierre Iberia, José Luis Flores, said that "for Klépierre, this alliance is key to continue advancing in our commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. Smarkia s AI tools offer us the ability to constantly measure and monitor energy consumption and has allowed us to reduce energy consumption by 37% since 2018."
In this line, the partner of AUREN, Javier Yáñezindicates that "Smarkia is the platform with the greatest capacity to address the solutions demanded by our clients and has allowed us, based on very precise consumption indicators, not only to achieve savings in the use of energy, but also to integrate other fundamental parameter indicators in some clients such as Paradores, in relation to occupancy, which allows them to align their objectives".
This first edition of the 'EnergIAbySmarkia' study was carried out by the consulting firm GFK for Smarkia , with the participation of more than 100 executives from large companies in the Food and FMCG, Tourism, Retail, Energy, Real Estate, and Manufacturing and Production Industry sectors.
