Klépierre consolidates a 50% reduction in electricity consumption in its centers thanks to Smarkia applied artificial intelligence

León, December 4, 2025. Klépierre, a company specializing in prime shopping centers in continental Europe, has made significant progress in its energy strategy in Spain thanks to Smarkia, the AI-powered energy management platform.

Since the collaboration began in 2018, the centers operated by the company have reduced their electricity consumption by 50%, optimized more than 9GWh, and connected Smarkia than 2,800 energy signals from their own systems and facilities to Smarkia , multiplying the volume of information managed since the start of the project by thirty. At the same time, the integration of renewable energy has also increased, with a 25% growth in monitored photovoltaic production during 2025 and a reduction in emissions that reached 930 tons of CO₂ between January and October of the same year.

This performance has enabled Klépierre to meet the requirements of ISO 50001 certification, while also reducing the preparation and operational time associated with audits by 60% thanks to the automation, data traceability, and document standardization provided by Smarkia. The company is thus in a stronger position ahead of the new European transposition on energy efficiency, which will increase measurement, reporting, and optimization obligations for large multi-site operators.

These advances come during a period of solid growth for the company, with a 3.3% increase in sales, a 2.3% increase in footfall, and a 10% increase in commercial activities. On this basis, Klépierre is now incorporating a new level of energy efficiency with the activation of advanced AI-powered climate control and cooling at the Príncipe Pío Shopping Center (Madrid), one of its most iconic and busiest assets. The technology adjusts settings in real time according to weather, occupancy, and demand, with the aim of reducing thermal consumption by more than 10-15%, while maintaining stable comfort conditions for operators and visitors. Management is supported by IPMVP protocol measurement, adaptive baselines, continuous traceability, and remote connectivity with high cybersecurity standards.

At a time of peak activity for retailers, with Christmas just around the corner, this strategy puts Klépierre at the forefront of the move towards a more efficient, sustainable, and future-proof energy model, capable of reducing consumption, costs, and environmental impact without compromising the operation of the centers.
